With Steve Carell soon to be leaving the TV show that made him a household name, NBC has been securing as many guest stars as it can for the season finale to keep audiences interested. Will Ferrell has already been a major presence these past couple of episodes, delivering plenty of laughs while keeping his zanier tendencies in check. If the network is trying to keep its viewership with these guest appearances, well, so far, it is working.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, we can now add Jim Carrey’s name to the list of famous faces who will be gracing the show with their presence for the season finale. With the character of Michael Scott soon to be out the door, the office will be needing a new manager, and Carrey will play one of the folks interviewing for the job, along with the likes of Ray Romano, Will Arnett, James Spader, Catherine Tate, and Ricky Gervais, who has already made a brief cameo on the show this season as his character from the UK “The Office,” David Brent.
Of course, we’re all wondering who will take over permanently, and while we’d like to imagine that a big name like Ferrell or Gervais will join the show, we think the spot is more likely to go to a lesser star like Arnett or Spader.
Not that that’s a problem. They’re both terrifically skilled actors who can keep us laughing. It will be hard to fill the Carell’s shoes, but there is certainly someone out there who is up to the task.
