Universal Teams up With AnyClip to Offer Film Clips Online

In the age of Facebook, film buffs no longer need to invite their friends over to check out their favorite memorable scenes from movies. If you want to share, say, the classic shootout scene from “Heat,” you can do a Youtube search and embed the video on your profile or blog.
Sadly, not all movie clips are available online, and even when you do find a related result, it may not be exactly what you were looking for.
AnyClip is looking to change that. They’re a new company that will archive various movie clips online, with tags associated with each clip so that users can search for their favorite scenes and show them to family and friends. The service will also allow users to rent or buy the films through services like Netflix and iTunes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, AnyClip just made the biggest deal since its creation, acquiring the rights to all of Universal Studio’s films. Before this deal was made, AnyClip’s catalog primarily consisted of smaller movies.
The task of searching through these movies and digitally archiving specific scenes is a challenge, but those involved are enthusiastic about the possibilities for the business. Movie nerds love reliving classic moments from their favorite movies, and AnyClip will, theoretically, make that process much easier than it has been in the past.
The business is still in the early stages of growth, and there’s no guarantee that it will be a success, but we can see this site being huge. With this new deal in place, it’s only a matter of time before casual Internet users start to become more familiar with the service.
