3-D Movies--The New Wave is Now, But Is the Now Ready?

Get ready for things that reach out and go bump in the theater.

The Hollywood Reporter has an excellent story on the new wave of 3-D movies, which begins in with next month's release of Beowulf and hits harder in 2009 with the releases of DreamWorks' "Monsters vs. Aliens" and then James Cameron's "Avatar." Are theaters ready for the new wave? Are audiences? Not according to the Reporter.

From their report: "The question, though, is whether theaters worldwide will be ready to accommodate the new wave of 3-D. In the U.S., the transition to digital cinema finally has begun, and a business model -- with distributors paying exhibitors a "virtual print fee" to help finance the transition -- is taking shape. Not so for the rest of the world."

Nice post - slight correction: Avatar and Monsters vs. Aliens are both due in 2009, not 08.
