Vintage Trailer: Darling (1965)

In 1965, Julie Christie hit the scene with her movie Darling, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress. Now, 43 years later on Feb. 24, she's up for the award again, this time for "Away from Her." She'll win that award.

One of my favorite summations of Christie in "Darling" comes from the critic Pauline Kael: "The darling, played by Julie Christie, drifts upward. She casually models, has a bit part in a movie, leaves a husband, deceives a lover, goes to new ones; after such tribulations as an abortion, an orgy, and a religious conversion, she winds up unhappily married to a prince."

And just look at how Christie pulled it off.

Kael goes on to say: "The film's chief distinction is Julie Christie; she's extraordinary--petulant, sullen, and very beautiful."

She still is.

Below is the trailer.
