"An unflinching examination of racism and race relations in today’s society, Rock the Paint tells an explosive, coming-of-age story that ignites when teenager Josh Sendler (Douglas Smith, Sleepover, TV’s “C.S.I.” and “Big Love”) is forced to pack up his senior-year hoop dreams and move from the lush cornfields of Indiana to the harsh, inner-city mean streets of Newark, New Jersey. There, he meets and befriends basketball phenomenon Antwone (Kevin Phillips, The Cookout, Pride, American Gun) on the local court, and together they make a run for the high-school state championship. But can their friendship survive amidst a racially charged atmosphere that threatens to divide them and destroy their dreams?
Rock the Paint, written and produced by newcomer Dallas Mitchell Brennan, marks the auspicious feature debut of award-winning producer/director Phil Bertelson. The film was honored with the Best Picture Award at the Montclair Film Festival and with Tribeca Film Institute’s TAA Creative Promise Award, as well as being an official selection at the Pan African Film Festival. Most recently, it won the Homegrown Feature Award at the Garden State Film Festival."
