But when her son’s brazenly sensual teenage girlfriend shows up for a summer holiday, Miriam grows jealous and begins a secret affair that threatens to bring her perfect existence to an abrupt and sudden end. Following in the footsteps of tense morality plays Little Children and American Beauty comes SUMMER OF ’04, a smash German-language film from director Stefan Krohmer.
Comfortably middle-class, Miriam and Andre (Peter Davor) are vacationing at their seaside summer home, and their 15-year-old son, Nils (Lucas Kotaranin), has brought along his Lolita-like 12-year-old girlfriend, Livia (Svea Lohde). After the flirtatious Livia goes sailing alone with a bachelor neighbor, Bill (Robert Seeliger, Fay Grim, Paradise Falls), Miriam fears an inappropriate relationship may develop between the girl and the thirty-something man. As she steps in to prevent any trouble, Miriam finds herself falling for Bill and they embark on an affair – but it is young Livia who captivates Bill, a development that threatens to send the normally self-assured Miriam off the deep end.
