The dark, comedic gangster thriller “In Bruges,” with Colin Ferrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes smartly redefines the hitman movie; Angela Bassett’s life as Brenda in the Chicago projects is explored in “Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns,” a fine movie available on DVD and Blu-ray disc in which Brenda finds new life in Georgia, where the father she never knew recently has died; and Jack Black scores with Mos Def in “Be Kind Rewind,” a quirky movie in love with movies. 



The first season of the 1996 television show “Early Edition” is now available, as are the excellent “The 2007 Newport Music Festival” and “Ruth Rendell Mysteries, Set. 3” from Acorn Media; the fierce legal drama “The Closer: Complete Third Season” with Kyra Sedgewick, from Warner; “Heathers: 20th High School Reunion Edition”; and, for those who know that some of the worst movies can also be some of the funniest movies, there’s “Xanadu: Magical, Musical Edition,” with roller skates, the 1980s, and a steadfast Olivia Newton-John (not to mention Gene Kelly, of all people) somehow navigating through them all.
