"The title tale, which has captured a prestigious Caldecott Medal and sold over 1.5 million books since it was originally published in 1 963, is familiar to children -- and adults -- of all ages. Regarded as a landmark children’s classic, it’s the wildly imaginative story of Max, a young boy who misbehaves and is sent to his room without supper. There, he lets his imagination take him to a faraway place where, after donning a distinctive wolf costume, he befriends the strange, mythical creatures who inhabit the island. But, after a “wild rumpus” Max decides it’s time to head back home, “where someone loved him best of all.”
"With the new read-along function on “Where the Wild Things Are,” children will delight in following the narration in this beautifully animated version of Max’s adventures. Other Sendak tales, distinctively adapted by Weston Woods and featured on the DVD include “Pierre,” “One Was Johnnie,” “Alligators All Around,” “Chicken Soup with Rice,” and “In the Night Kitchen.”, most of which have been bestowed with Caldecott Medal, Caldecott Honor and ALA Notable Book Awards."
