The Dark Knight Closes in on 3 Million Blu-ray Discs Sold
The Dark Knight has done it again--and not even a Best Picture or Best Director nod.
According to Warner Home Video, the Blu-ray release of 'The Dark Knight' has sold an astounding 2.8 Million copies, with 2 Million being sold in the US alone. As many will recall, the most recent Batman film sold a record-breaking 1.7 Million copies in its first week of sale. Since then, sales have been steady, and worldwide sales are quickly approaching the 3 Million mark.
Not surprisingly, the popular comic book-inspired film has also driven Blu-ray Disc player sales. According to research done by Warner, of those who purchased a Sony PlayStation 3 between October and December of last year, one third cited the Blu-ray release of 'The Dark Knight' as affecting their decision.
While no Batman film will be released this year from the studio, Warner is hoping that Blu-ray releases of 'Watchmen' and 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' will see similar success.
