Chris Pine? Meet Jack Ryan.
That's the news--and we like what we're hearing.
First Showing says:
Variety reports that Pine is in serious negotiations to step into the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, in a reboot of the franchise based on Tom Clancy’s series of political-thriller novels.
While talks have only recently begun, Paramount expects Pine to officially join the project as it comes to fruition. “The studio and producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mace Neufeld are working with a script draft by Hossein Amini, based on an original concept.”
When you're cast in a Clancy movie--even though this will be the first not to be based on a Clancy book--that can either be a great thing (Baldwin, Ford) or something that stabs at your eyes (Affleck). But Pine should be able to come through. He rebooted the "Star Trek" franchise with seamless ease and, given the right script and director, he should be able to do the same here.
Thoughts?
