"Alice in Wonderland": Movie Trailer Review

If asked what big-time director would be most fit to tackle Lewis Carroll’s classic "Alice in Wonderland," the answer would unequivocally come back Tim Burton.

Burton, along with his trusty duo of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, has taken on the surreal before. With "Alice in Wonderland," however, the "Sweeney Todd" director faces his biggest--and perhaps most anticipated--challenge yet. Is he up to it?

So far, the answer seems to be that he is. The imaginative world of the novel already looks brought back to life in a more fantastic way than ever before. Through only minor glimpses of the characters are offered, one suspects that the visuals alone may be worth the price of admission. It doesn’t hurt that Anne Hathaway, Michael Sheen and Alan Rickman, among others, fill out the supporting cast.

Even with the relatively unknown Mia Wasikowska as the title character, Alice should have no problem drawing moviegoers out to the theaters. The allure of the novel, along with the legions of Burton and Depp loyalists, should be more than enough. Add in 3-D, not to mention IMAX, and it wouldn’t be far-fetched to predict one of the biggest March openings in recent history.

From the sights of it, there seems to no indication that "Alice in Wonderland" is getting anything but the high treatment it deserves. Based on one of the most beloved of all novels, Burton’s film adaptation promises to be an event.

Burton will have audiences going down the rabbit hole on March 5, 2010.
