"Salt" Movie Trailer Review

All you need is Angelina Jolie wearing leather and holding a gun and you’re pretty much guaranteed a box office smash. That is likely what her new film, "Salt," will wind up being.

Jolie plays CIA agent Evelyn Salt, who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy with intentions of launching a possible attack on America. In order to clear her name, she has to go on the run acting out as a patriot to prove her innocence. The trailer pulls you in immediately thanks to Jolie’s natural charisma (and let’s not forget those lips) and has you wondering who exactly is Evelyn Salt?

Of course, this film seems to provide the typical car chases and people leaping over highways and conveniently landing on top of trucks without a scrape, but Jolie does it with style. And that is what keeps us as an audience coming back for more of her. The role, originally written for Tom Cruise, was clearly made for a bad-ass star like Angelina.

The trailer doesn’t do much more than offer glamour shots of Angelina with different hair styles, in various states of undress, and lots of action sequences. Also, it keeps the details of the plot pretty well under wraps. This, however, is actually refreshing because most trailers tell you the entire film within two minutes. There also is a supporting performance in the movie by the always pleasing Liev Schreiber.

The film looks sleek and stylishly directed by Phillip Noyce, who just might have his first huge box office smash here. Unless the planets align against Jolie, "Salt" will be success. Whether it has substance or not, it has Angelina Jolie--and to be realistic, at this point, that’s all that matters.
