"Something, Something, Something Dark Side": Movie Trailer Review

In the same way that “Blue Harvest” was a retelling of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," the new Family Guy special “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” will be a comedic retelling of "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back," using everyone’s favorite residents of Quahog.

An extended trailer for the new DVD debuted this week and is absolutely hilarious.

The official description for “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” is: "Holy ship! The Family Guy empire strikes back with another hilarious parody of your favorite sci-fi saga! May the laughs be with you as (Chris) Skywalker joins forces with (Peter) Solo and Princess (Lois) Leia to battle (Stewie) Vader and his Imperial minions while he sets up a new secret base on the remote ice world of Hoth. A host of new characters comes along for the wild ride, including Mort Goldman as Lando Calrissian, Chris's boss Carl as Yoda, and the Giant Chicken as the nefarious Boba Fett. It's an outrageous, out-of-this-world experience you'll "saber" for light-years to come!"

The trailer has a few dull spots, but overall, the episode looks to be even better than “Blue Harvest.” One of the many laugh-out-loud moments of the trailer comes when they spoof the attack on planet Hoth, including rebel forces and ‘giant robot camels.’ Stewie spits out some great one liners as Darth Vader, such as when he comments to a storm trooper on his wardrobe: “Guess today wasn’t the day to wear your mesh storm trooper shirt.”

One of the best parts of the trailer is seeing what characters from Family Guy are sued to parody "Star Wars." The usually ironic choices always end creating some hilarious situations, especially with Peter as Han Solo, Quagmire as C-3PO and Brian as Chewbacca.

With the popularity of the first special, and the expected success of the sequel, another special is being planned as well. A spoof of “Return of the Jedi," titled “We Have A Bad Feeling About This,” will be the next in the series, rounding out the trilogy.

The DVD for “Something, Something, Something Dark Side” will be released on December 22, 2009, just in time for the holidays.
