"Entourage"...the Movie?

It's interesting to note that when a show is either failing in the rating or near the end of its run that a movie based on that show sometimes finds new life in theaters. "Entourage" producer Mark Wahlberg let it “slip” that fans will be seeing an "Entourage" film after the show finishes up its final two seasons. According to The Hollywood Reporter, which talked to Wahlberg about the series' fate, the show is looking to go another two seasons and then it will become “a movie.” An HBO spokesperson revealed, “It's not out of the realm of possibility,” but that currently the creators are focusing on another season of the show to air next summer.

As a fan of "Entourage" since its first season, it's sad how far the show has fallen from it's former glory. Following the exploits of rising Hollywood star Vincent Chase (Adrien Grenier), the show was phenomenal at lampooning Hollywood stars and giving audiences a behind-the-scenes look at celebrity. People also were introduced to Jeremy Piven as the abrasive agent Ari Gold, who had lines that have entered the public lexicon, such as “hug it out.”

Personally, I gave up two seasons ago when the show lost its way. Focusing on sub-par plots and a tendency to just hand the show off to Piven's constant screaming and cursing, there was virtually no humor. It was further complicated by generic plots revolving around the actors love lives and needless celebrity cameos to show off the series “cool factor.” Given the show's failing ratings, many were surprised that it got renewed this season, which recently ended in October. There's the sense that Wahlberg might only be stating the show's transition to film to gain more viewers for another season, though currently it doesn't seem as if the poor ratings would translate to significant box-office receipts.

Wow. According to your review, I didn't start watching until it started declining. I'm actually interested in the behind the scenes more than you, apparently.

Well compared to the first two seasons, the last two have been nothing short of terrible. I'd recommend checking out the show from beginning, and then seeing the big differences. Don't get me wrong, I love the Hollywood intrigue, but the core characters have wandered so far off from where they started.
