"Frozen" Movie Trailer Review

Skiing can be a dangerous activity, but who would've thought that sitting in a ski lift could be so much worse?

Director Adam Green, who acquired a fair bit of notoriety for his horror debut "Hatchet," returns with "Frozen," a horror film who terror places almost all in one spot--a ski lift. The very simple plot follows three friends who go skiing but find themselves in big trouble when the resort closes for the weekend without realizing they were the last ones left on the lift.

It's not a bad concept, but the trailer itself got a couple laughs out of me with how serious it takes the whole thing. With the eerie horror movie music playing over clip after clip of people sitting on a ski lift and yelling, it's hard to take very much of it seriously. I got a real kick out of this one line: "It's Friday. The resort doesn't open back up until...Monday! AH!"

The whole premise reminds me a bit of "Open Water," the shark film from a few years ago. It was a really basic concept, just a couple people in one location trying to survive, but a decent amount of terror and drama manages to get milked out of it (I'm still not a big fan of the film as a whole, though). "Frozen" is basically the same thing only instead of water and sharks we get snow, cold air, and wolves.

I'm not much of a horror movie fan in general, so this doesn't hold much interest for me.  Still, I can admire the fact that it's something a bit more original in a horror climate frequented with remakes and sequels.

"Frozen" arrives February 2, 2010.
