"Kick-Ass" Movie Trailer Review

When Natalie Portman signed on to play Mathilda in “Leon: The Professional,” her parents insisted on a clause limiting the amount of swear words she was allowed to say. For the big screen adaptation of the comic book “Kick-Ass,” it seems that Chloe Moretz’s parents didn’t do the same.

Twelve-year-old Moretz plays Hit Girl--and in her teaser trailer alone, she drops the f-word and the c-word, chops some legs off and shoots more bad guys than you can count. Maturity suits Moretz well, however. Her role in “(500) Days of Summer” as the extremely adult, fast-talking kid sister of Joseph Gordon-Levitt was one of the most enjoyable, albeit unbelievable, parts of the film.

The new Red Band trailer for “Kick-Ass,” which focuses on Hit Girl, already has sent a firestorm through geek blogs everywhere. In our age of political correctness and Disney values, a swearing, murderous pre-pubescent girl is certainly an anomaly--and a hilarious one at that. The trailer doesn’t tell us too much about the other characters or plot of the film, but we do see Nicolas Cage taking a back seat to Moretz’s star power as the father of the junior assassin. British actor Aaron Johnson plays title character Kick-Ass, and an unseen Christopher Mintz-Plasse (“Superbad”) takes on Red Mist. But the real question on everyone’s mind is this--is it too much? A cussing, occasionally school-girl outfit-clad tween heroine?

Never.

    Can't wait for this movie!
Both trailers got me hyped and made me buy the comics.
The violence and dialog was captured from panel to panel judging from what I've seen in the trailers.
