D.J. Caruso ("Eagle Eye," "Disturbia") has signed on to direct the film adaptation of "I Am Number Four," reports Heat Vision Blog.

According to Heat Vision: D.J. Caruso is on board to direct “I Am Number Four,” DreamWorks’ adaptation of the upcoming young-adult science fiction book by James Frey and Jobie Hughes.

The upcoming sci-fi novel is about a group of nine earthbound alien teens who escaped their planet just before it was destroyed by a hostile species. While the high school-aged kids assimilate, the title character discovers that the enemy that blew up their planet is hunting him.

Al Gough and Miles Millar wrote the screenplay and Michael Bay will produce. The book, which will be released this fall, is the first in a series of six.

It is unclear whether “Four” will be the director’s next project as he also is developing “The Art of Making Money,” about counterfeiter Art Williams, for Paramount.

Say what you will about Caruso, but I really liked “Eagle Eye." Although the storyline wasn’t great, Caruso kept me engaged throughout the entire film, and I think he is a great fit considering the plot. He had solid chemistry with young star Shia LaBeouf on “Eagle Eye” and “Disturbia,” which is a plus considering the new film is set among high schoolers.
