"Red Riding" is a crime drama trilogy that first aired on television in the UK between March 5 and 19, 2009. Huge in scope and directed by three different critically lauded British directors (Julian Jarrold, James Marsh and Anand Tucker), "Red Riding" tells the story of a group of detectives determined to discover the cause of a series of killings. IFC Films has picked up the acclaimed television trilogy so it can finally be released in the United States, and it's getting a pretty nice treatment--an actual theatrical release of all three features.

The trailer for the trilogy's planned theatrical US release definitely gives you an idea of what the big deal is. Spanning over a decade and starring a huge cast (including Paddy Considine, Sean Bean, Rebecca Hall and Andrew Garfield), it seems very similar in style and construction to David Fincher's epic detective drama "Zodiac," and the intriguing use of three different types of film for each entry gives each a unique style while still maintaining the overall mood and tone of the whole picture.

With such a great cast and overall talent involved, this is practically a must-see for me. IFC plans on releasing the trilogy on February 5, 2010 both in theaters (likely with a limited release) and on IFC On Demand, and are very likely to follow-up quickly with a DVD release of all three. Keep your eyes out, this doesn't seem like one to miss.
