"Defendor" Movie Trailer Review
"Defendor"
By our guest blogger, Chris Pavone
Am I the only one that is ecstatic at the rejuvenation of Woody Harrelson’s career? It’s like the reemergence of bigger and bigger cell phones, only better. Woody (is it okay if I call him Woody?) kicked down doors with his role in "Zombieland," but this new portrayal of "Defendor" (no, not Defender – Defendor) may sweep our collective leg, Johnny!
Don’t get me wrong--the idea of a comedy or, shall I say, dramedy, feeding off of the ever so popular superhero genre like a ravenous leech has already shown its face, and an ugly face at that, but "Defendor" looks as though it may tread a bit further. Perhaps it is the dark world that is painted before us in this trailer or our own need to pull for a character that is so pathetic and so far gone that he honestly believes he can fight crime and “not be hurt by guns.” But above all, it is Woody’s sincerity behind the masked eyes of Defendor that spells out dark humor best.
Any way you look at it, a story of a superhero who throws marbles and squirts limejuice on his enemies in a quest for justice, seems as though it may capture viewers in the same original fashion that Edgar Wright did in his wildly funny spin on zombie films in 2004’s "Shaun of the Dead."
"Defendor" might even surprise the skeptics (and there sure will be many) as Woody Harrelson continues his unusual rise of acting resurgence. Like "Defendor," he may just climb right back into the hearts of audiences beginning February 26, 2010.
