Steven Soderbergh’s “Contagion” Spreads to Top Talent
Director Steven Soderbergh’s newest project has reportedly bumped his longtime back-burner biopic of Liberace off his to-do list, at least for the moment. And since Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Matt Damon and Marion Cotillard all having signed on, who wouldn’t clear their schedule?
The Playlist is reporting that Soderbergh’s project will encompass multiple storylines, a la his 2000 hit film “Traffic,” and will center around the global impact of a deadly virus. The script--simply titled “Contagion”--is written by longtime Soderbergh collaborator Scott Z. Burns, who most recently penned the Damon vehicle “The Informant!” (Damon is also attached to the Liberace project, along with Michael Douglas).
Though he’s still in the process of securing all the necessary financing, Soderbergh apparently plans to be done with “Contagion” in time to finally begin filming the Liberace picture in early 2011.
