Real World DC – Episode 10 Recap & Review

By our guest blogger, Gita Gupte

Last week’s “Real World DC” concluded with drunken antics resulting in injury. We saw Ty throw Andrew over the ledge of a staircase and wondered what would become of the man in the panda hat. The previews for this week showed Andrew in a neck-brace being carted off to the hospital, but when the actual episode aired on Wednesday, we saw that this was just an elaborate ploy by MTV to keep us holding our breath.

Thankfully, Andrew came out of the incident untouched, save some minor bruises, but Ty’s actions led to a house discussion of the bigger issue of his violence towards his housemates. Emily was the roommate most upset about what went down. She felt that Ty’s aggression was directed toward her and somehow Andrew was the one who got injured. I don’t blame Emily for feeling this way. After Ty threatened to punch her in the face last week, she has a valid reason for wanting Ty to own-up to his aggressive and potentially dangerous nature. Ironically enough, Andrew, the one who was on the receiving end of Ty’s actions, didn’t think anything of the incident and voted for Ty to remain in the house. After much discussion, Ty promised to no longer drink while in the house.

Obviously, this only lasted a good 10 minutes as we see Ty drinking with his roommates almost immediately after making this promise. Though most of them are unaffected by this, Emily takes it very seriously. When she confronts Ty on the issue, he claims that he never made a promise not to drink. Is someone taking crazy pills? I always find it amusing when people on reality TV deny saying something they actually said--don’t they realize everything they say is being recorded?

The positive side of this week’s episode was that Ashley did not annoy me. Her levelheaded approach to the scuffle that went down was refreshing and I appreciated her calm nature when dealing with her heated roommates. I was surprised at Andrew’s nonchalant attitude when it came to what Ty did to him, but perhaps he knows Ty better than we do. Let’s hope so, because right now, Ty is looking like an over-aggressive jerk.

Next week, Andrew’s karma takes a turn for the better when we see him get involved with a girl that he likes beyond just hooking up--who would’ve thought little Andrew would grow up?

We’ll just have to wait and see how long it lasts.

I thought you'd pick up more on the fact that Emily is a psycho stubborn control freak in this episode!
