"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" Movie Trailer Review
"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"
By our guest blogger, Rob Stammitti
I think pretty much everyone knows by now whether the "Twilight" films are for them. Despite the promises from "Eclipse" director David Slade ("Hard Candy," "30 Days of Night") that he made the film with both the female and male audiences in mind, and that it would be far more "action-packed" and less sappy than the predecessors, it's still a film about a virtually flawless girl going crazy over two gorgeous guys and needing to choose between them. No script rewrite or visionary director can change that.
The brand new trailer for "Eclipse" pretty much proves this. Like "Twilight" and its sequel "New Moon," "Eclipse" follows Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), an angst-ridden teenage girl who has fallen dangerously in love with a sparkly vampire named Edward (Robert Pattinson). The film basically revolves around her need to decide whether she wants to stay with Edward and become a vampire herself, or stick with her old childhood friend Jacob (who happens to be a werewolf) and both create further conflict between werewolves and vampires and break Edward's heart. A side plot involves some red-haired vixen from the first film (played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who notably did not play the character in the first film) seeking revenge on Bella and Edward for killing her boyfriend. You could call that the main plot, but I don't care what the film synopses say--I know for a fact the focus will be on the romance.
The trailer displays all the sizzle points--Edward and Jacob spouting cliched romantic talk, Bella being angsty and indecisive, and slow motion jumps through the air. The trailer is pretty inconsequential, considering this film's audience might as well already be in line. I don't expect any naysayers will all of a sudden change their minds this late in the game.
So if you like "Twilight," sure, this trailer is probably exciting, and you're likely to snatch up tickets as soon as they're available. If not, well, it's unlikely anything this trailer does is going to win you over. However, if you're like me and you find the films to be outrageously funny melodrama (like the guilty giggles you might get from a soap opera if you have one on, say, because you lost the remote or something), then you might be just as excited for this as the fangirls are.
"The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" makes its way into theaters June 30, 2010. Trailer is below. Thoughts?
