More Casting Notes on Woody Allen’s Paris-Based Drama

By our guest blogger, Tim Strain

Woody Allen keeps cranking them out. The most consistent workhorse director of our time is set to shoot his 38th feature in the City of Light this summer. “Midnight to Paris” sports a cast as loaded and as quirky as one would expect from the King of Jewmor. Allison Pill (“Milk,” “Scott Pilgrim vs. The World,” “Redwall: The Movie”) joins Owen Wilson (the Allen character—a role I and other Allen apostles will be scrutinizing, I’m sure), Marion Cotillard, Rachel McAdams, Kathy Bates, Michael Sheen, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy and Adrien Brody.

The official plot synopsis:

"Midnight in Paris" is a romantic comedy that follows a family travelling to the city for business. The party includes a young engaged couple (likely Wilson and McAdams the two leads) that has their lives transformed throughout the journey. The film celebrates a young man’s great love for Paris, and simultaneously explores the illusion people have that a life different from their own is better.

No word yet on which role Pill or recent addition Brody will play. Whatever it is, it will surely work considering the Maestro’s skills with actors. “Midnight to Paris” will be released next year. Allen’s newest, the tantalizingly titled “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” debuted at Cannes to mixed reviews. It stars Naomi Watts, Josh Brolin, Anthony Hopkins, and so many more, and will be released September 13, 2010.
