"Danny Trejo's Vengeance"

Movie Trailer Review

By our guest blogger, Jeremy Wilkinson

Hot off the heels of the endlessly entertaining ‘Machete,’ Danny Trejo has a new film coming out: ‘Danny Trejo’s Vengeance.’ If the trailer is any indication, this movie could not have come out at a worse time.

Danny Trejo plays a retired cop whose family is killed, which results in him seeking revenge -- which sounds eerily similar to ‘Machete.’ Even without surface level resemblances to the ‘Grindhouse’ spin-off, ‘Vengeance’ doesn’t have much going for it.

The snippets shown in the trailer alternate between Trejo looking forlorn and kicking ass, the latter of which he does in most of his movies.

Essentially, this is Trejo retreading the same type of character he is known for playing and, in this trailer at least, the novelty has worn off. Nothing comes off as fresh or exciting, but rather a rote repetition of themes and narratives we’ve all seen done before (and better) by other filmmakers.

Could this end up being an underrated revenge story gem, a sleeper hit among the violence-loving DVD crowd?  Possibly.  Based on this preview, ‘Vengeance’ appears to be a forgettable action movie, trying to get viewers by virtue of its badass lead actor. Any glimpses of entertainment are tempered by its mediocrity.  Give ‘Vengeance’ a cursory glance if you’re a big Trejo fan, but otherwise just let it pass you by.
