Eli Roth, of "Hostel" notoriety, is set to produce the latest installment of “Movies to Scar Your Children.” Category: Killer Clowns.

I guess Stephen King’s "It" was getting a little outdated.

After wanting to take a break from horror, Roth has signed on to "Clown," a film clawing him back to the genre that’s been his bread and butter for most of his career.

In the film, when the clown hired for his son’s birthday party can’t make it, Dad goes downstairs and finds a costume conveniently in the basement that fits the bill. And we all know that only good things come from basements, right?  Dad steps in for Bozo and saves the day, until his make-up just won’t…come…off.  Thus begins the treacherous descent from Ronald McDonald to Pennywise the Dancing Clown with a lust for blood and an insecurity issue.

The film's intrigue lies behind the scenes.

Shot as a fake trailer to garner attention, commercial directors Jon Watts and Christopher D. Ford caught Roth’s eye with a high-risk gimmick. “I loved how ballsy they were, issuing a trailer that said, 'From the Master of Horror, Eli Roth,’” Roth shared with Deadline.com. “Some people thought I'd made the movie, or that it was another fake Grindhouse trailer.” The gamble certainly paid off when he did not sue Watts and Ford, opting instead to join forces and bring the story to the big screen. Let this be a lesson to aspiring directors out there--it’s no longer enough to create a viral campaign--appropriation is the key!

Roth is also linked to produce "Aftershock," a thriller inspired by the Chilean earthquake of 2010. This will be Chilean director Nicolás López’s first English language project.
