Dr. Dre "Kush (Feat. Snoop Dogg and Akon)"

Music Video Review

By our guest blogger, Nick Hanover

Dre, if I may call you that, I've got a question for you. Unless I'm misinterpreting the lyrics to "Kush," your new single is basically all about a specific strain of pot, right? And as guests, you've got notorious pot aficionado Snoop Dogg and Autotune-and-jailbait aficionado Akon backing you up, spouting lines like "inhale/exhale." So, why the hell does the video look like a "2 Fast 2 Furious" tribute?

Luckily, Dre answers this question before the video ends. Despite his pleas to let 'em put some kush up in it, Dre's most recent video seems to actually be about Akon going power mad and attempting to crash his Lear jet into Dre's futuristic high rise. Except little does he know that Dre is in fact using a Life Model Decoy and the real Dre is on the ground supervising a race for pinks. Or is he in an LAPD-owned Apache helicopter, looking ready to shoot the jet down and wreak havoc on the innocents below? Or wait, is he in a hi-tech Lamborghini spreading wishes of HP product placement along LA's highways and biways?

The truth is that Dre, as some of you may know and is clearly shown in the video, has the ability to slow down time and thus is in all these places at once. This is what has enabled him to both survive nearly every hip-hop revolt since the late '80s and fend the Earth off from alien attack once a decade. In case you were wondering, the last point is what has caused delays in his solo endeavors--it's just too difficult to drop your latest LP when you're fighting warriors from Dimension X.  Jus' sayin'. I forgive you if you watched the "Kush" video and just assumed it was the street racing, lear jet-crashing, sprinkler party stereotype it appears to be on its surface, but hey, now you know: Dre's out to save the damn world.
