Mark Wahlberg Producing “The Raven”

Movie News

Mark Wahlberg may have put himself through some grueling training to prepare for the role of “Irish” Micky Ward for his new film “The Fighter,” but he hasn’t let his commitment to acting slow down his producing business. Aside from his work on the popular TV shows “Entourage” and “Boardwalk Empire,” Slashfilm reports that Wahlberg has also recently signed up as a producer for the upcoming film “The Raven.”

No, it has nothing to do with the Edgar Allan Poe poem.

“The Raven” will be a feature-length remake of a short film that got a lot of buzz on the Internet earlier in the year and which you can view below. The story centers around a mysterious protagonist known by the code name “Raven,” who is stalked through Los Angeles by a robotic police force. The character has telekinetic powers which he uses against his pursuers.

The short film itself seems to be a technical exercise for its director, Ricardo De Montreuil, who has signed on to a different project and will not be helming this adaptation. Whoever takes over as writer for the remake will have to flesh out the story considerably--as of now, although the original short is visually impressive; it looks like something De Montreuil made simply so he could practice working with visual effects and staging chase scenes.

However, the film has potential and it is easy to see why Hollywood snatched up the rights. The super-powered main character could have a very interesting back story if enough thought is put into the project. How did he get these powers? Is he the only person who has them?

As of now, no major casting news has broken and it’s entirely possible that Wahlberg himself may appear in some capacity. It will be worth following this project as it develops.
