NBC Picks Up Playboy Bunnies Show

It looks like NBC is trying to pull a “Mad Men.”

According to Deadline, the network has recently picked up a new show about Playboy Bunnies working in Chicago during the 1960s. Much like everyone’s favorite series about over-sexed (and over-soused) advertising executives, the show will explore the social values shift that occurred during that tumultuous decade.

Still, if you’re going to vaguely rip something off, might as well do it with style. With most new shows being unrealistic cop dramas (which are kind of pointless now that “The Wire” is on DVD) or mindless “reality” programs, it’s nice to see NBC going for something different.

We also can’t complain about the subject matter. An entire show about Playboy girls? Count us in, for sure.

Although, to be fair, that brings up the question of how NBC is going to sanitize the material for a wider audience. We don’t expect a realistic depiction of that particular lifestyle, and that could seriously ruin the illusion of the show. No drugs, no profanity, no sex? It’ll be tough to make a show on this subject without those elements.

Still, it’s worth seeing how NBC goes about making the series. There’s always the chance that it’ll be a hit, so we’ll look forward to see how it develops.
