Remember that episode of “South Park,” where the state of New Jersey began to grow like a cancer across all of America, spreading Snookiesque characters to all corners of our map?
Yeah, it looks like it is coming true. At least in the realm of television programming.
Deadline now reports that aside from Season 4 of “Jersey Shore,” which, despite all our hopes, appears to be going forward with all the major players returning, we’ll also get a spinoff focusing on the friendship between Snooki and Jwoww. Because if there’s one thing that TV needs in order to get its act together, it is more Nicole Polizzi.
However, if you tend to be more of a DJ Pauly D fan (why?), don’t worry, because he’s also getting his own series which will follow him as he tours America as an in-demand DJ. The tentative title for this project is “The Trail of Tears.”
(OK, we made that last part up.)
Oh well, in an age where the biggest celebrity in the news is Charlie Sheen, it’s no big surprise that some viewers want to see more of these train-wrecks. However, we really can’t see these shows offering up anything that “Jersey Shore” doesn’t give audiences already. In fact, by getting rid of some of the other major characters (we refuse to think of them as real people), it seems likely that these spinoffs will inevitably be little more than disappointments.
But then again, the success of “Jersey Shore” has always been a disappointment.
