Zach Galifianakis Gives HBO First Look at Future TV Projects

Television News

So, comedy nerds, the good news is that Deadline has confirmed that Zach Galifianakis has signed a deal that pretty much guarantees you will be seeing a lot more of him on HBO soon. The bad news is that the first project to come out of that deal will, uh, not star Galifianakis at all.

Galifianakis, who can already be found on HBO in small doses on "Bored to Death," has signed a first look deal with the network and has already begun work on the first project. That project will be a vehicle for Galifianakis pal Brody Stevens, whose entire schtick revolves around not being funny. Seriously. Stevens' show is planned as a mockumentary affair that will show Stevens in his natural, awkward habitat.

While Galifianakis while likely be guest starring on the series, it's pretty obvious that what HBO (and fans) really want is for the breakout comedian to create some kind of show for himself to capitalize on his post-Hangover success. Of course, true Galifianakis fans will remember a splendid time when Galifianakis actually did have his own show, the short-lived "Late World with Zach" which aired on pre-BESTOFSHOWSALLTHEDAMNTIME VH1. That program was notable for being a) hilarious and b) showing the world what a beardless-Zach looked like.

Will the Zach be resurrecting that program? Or will he go the more traditional sitcom or sketch route? Only time (or an insider connection) will tell.
