The Love Guru--First Look

USA Today has published the first photo of the new Mike Myers/Jessica Alba movie The Love Guru, which hits theaters June 20, 2008. The film also stars Justin Timberlake and Ben Kingsley, with Myers himself writing the script.

From USA Today: "Myers, a native of Ontario, says he wrote the film because of his interests in Eastern philosophy and hockey. But he isn't the type to zip out a script the moment an idea hits. 'I enjoy having the Lamaze birthing process of it,' says Myers, who also authored the Wayne's World and Austin Powers franchises. 'It usually takes me three, 3½ years in between characters.'

Why so long? He's very protective of his original live-action characters. 'I've written and created everything I've done, and it takes me a year to reflect on what I've done, a year to let the idea incubate and a year to create' a new character."

Looks interesting, but Myers can be a mixed bag. At least he looks as if he's trying something new, which is critical after years of so much "Shrek."

Studio Synopsis: In the comedy, “The Love Guru” (MIKE MYERS), Pitka is an American who was left at the gates of an ashram in India as a child and raised by gurus. He moves back to the U.S. to seek fame and fortune in the world of self-help and spirituality. His unorthodox methods are put to the test when he must settle a rift between Toronto Maple Leafs star hockey player Darren Roanoke (ROMANY MALCO) and his estranged wife. After the split, Roanoke’s wife starts dating L.A. Kings star Jacques Grande (JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE) out of revenge, sending her husband into a major professional skid – to the horror of the teams’ owner Jane Bullard (JESSICA ALBA) and Coach Cherkov (VERNE TROYER). Pitka must return the couple to marital nirvana and get Roanoke back on his game so the team can break the 40-year-old “Bullard Curse” and win the Stanley Cup.
