"Cesar Award winner and Golden Globe® nominee Alain Delon (Our Story), Academy Award® nominee Catherine Deneuve (Indochine) and Emmy Award® winner Richard Crenna (“The Rape of Richard Beck”) star in Dirty Money (Un Flic), a crime drama about two friends on opposite sides of the law who share the love of the same woman. Dirty Money is the last film from acclaimed director Jean-Pierre Melville (The Good Thief) who was a major influence on French New Wave cinema and was revered for his Hollywood style crime capers and edgy thrillers.
In this film noir, Paris police chief Edouard Colemane (Delon) discovers that his friend Simon (Crenna), a nightclub owner, is also the leader of a gang of notorious criminals. When he is tipped off that the gang is planning a drug heist, he races to defeat his two-faced friend. Meanwhile, Colemane is engaged in some double crossing himself – he is having an affair with Simon’s girlfriend (Deneuve). Dirty Money was well received by the critics garnering praise from The New York Times (“seedy characters and expressionless settings are fused into a film noir demimonde”), Combustible Celluloid (“plays beautifully with all his [Melville’s] trademark silence, grim faces and gloomy colors”), Channel 4 Film (“superb policier”) and Time Out London (“a French gangster thriller filtered through American hard-nosed conventions”)."
