Finally! After hearing buzz about the movie for months, it now is easy to see why. Below is the trailer for Adam Elliot's "Mary and Max," a stop-animated film from Australia. Some will recall that this was featured as the Opening Night film at Sundance this year. There, it gained cheers, but no studio stepped forward to pick it up. And then Icon Entertainment International finally did, and when you watch the clip, you'll see what a wise decision that was. The movie looks different--it's original. Sure, "Up" likely will win the Academy Award (because that's what Pixar does, and often rightfully so), but based on the below trailer, "Mary and Max" at least has a chance for a nomination.
First, the synopsis: "Spanning 20 years and 2 continents, Mary and Max tells of a pen-pal relationship between two very different people: Mary Dinkle (Collette), a chubby, lonely 8-year-old living in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia; and Max Horovitz (Hoffman), a severely obese, 44-year-old Jewish man with Asperger’s Syndrome living in the chaos of New York City."
