"GI Joe 2" Has a Writer

It really must have felt good for Paramount to see "GI Joe: Rise Of The Cobra" do well at the box office last summer, netting a respectful $300 million worldwide, despite all of the negative buzz surrounding it. This gives Paramount another Hasbro toy line-based film franchise on their hands. Straight away, Paramount announced the GI Joe sequel was in development in early August, but since then, there has been no word.

Well, Collider has claimed from reliable sources within Paramount Studios that a writer has been found to write the film in the GI Joe franchise. Although the writer hasn't been announced, it looks as if "GI Joe 2" is underway. There still is no word on whether the director Stephen Sommers is going to return for the next installment.

Even though a writer has been found, there hasn’t been clear indications where the next film would go. The first film did leave an open ending for the possibility of a sequel, so there is the possibility that we will see the teams once again.

The first GI Joe was dumb, pre-adolescent fun with plenty of action and dire-loge with a tongue-in-cheek mentality--and Sienna Miller in spandex. Let's hope the sequel will have more of the same, instead of having another "Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen."

UPDATE: Paramount has confirmed that the "GI Joe 2" writers as "Zombieland" scribes Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese.

This is terrible news. At least with Transformers they waited until part 2 to screw up the franchise (and the second installment still wasn't as bad as G.I. Joe). Not only was the film horrible, but most of the characterizations were a joke. I mean seriously, what was up with Cobra Commander, Destro and Zartan?

If they really go through with this sequel I hope they either pretend that part one never happened or just use it as a footnote for part 2 (and still basically pretend like it never happened).

    No Joe!
