"Multiple Sarcasms" Movie Trailer Review

"Multiple Sarcasms" stars Timothy Hutton as a man who seemingly has a happy life with a good career, family and friends, but is truthfully not at all content with his life. He decides to quit his job as an architect and write a play based on his life, and all of his relationships begin unraveling in the process.

In many ways this film seems reminiscent of Woody Allen's more introspective and dramatic work--the everyman-turned-playwright, the familial conflict, the artsy friends (one played by Mira Sorvino, who won an Oscar for her role in Allen's "Mighty Aphrodite"), the existential anguish. Of course, this isn't an Allen film, and overall "Multiple Sarcasms" doesn't seem to have very many unique things to say.

That said, the cast alone makes the film intriguing. I've actually never seen a Timothy Hutton film, but his Oscar-winning performance in "Ordinary People" and frequent appearances in more low-key dramas and comedies certainly interest me. Sorvino is phenomenal in "Aphrodite," and has impressed me elsewhere as well. The rest of the cast, including Mario Van Peebles and Stockard Channing, are perhaps less appreciated but just as interesting.

There doesn't seem to be a great deal of information about the film's release, and it seems to have been in limbo for a while after a small release last February, but according to IMDb "Multiple Sarcasms," will be released in March 2010.

Hmmm I think I might pass. It's not that it isn't my type of movie. It just reminds me of another movie.
The Family Man anyone??? Directed by Brett Ratners starring Nick Cage??
