CNN's Rick Sanchez Fired After Calling Jon Stewart a Bigot
Television News
CNN's Rick Sanchez was fired Friday after telling an interviewer that 'The Daily Show' host Jon Stewart is a bigot and that "everybody that runs CNN is a lot like Stewart," The New York Times reports. Sanchez, a daytime anchor on the network, was making an appearance on comedian Pete Dominick's satellite radio show Thursday when he made the disparaging comments.
After calling Stewart a bigot, Sanchez, who is frequently mocked on 'The Daily Show,' continued his tirade. Even when Dominick pointed out that Stewart is Jewish and a minority too, Sanchez kept going, saying, "I'm telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they, the people in this country who are Jewish, are an oppressed minority? Yeah."
Audio of the interview went viral immediately and it wasn't long before the anchor was let go from the network. Late Friday, CNN released the following statement: "Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well."
Oh, Rick. Your ego on the show was becoming paramount--and then it swallowed you. Pity.
