Clint Eastwood’s J. Edgar Hoover biopic, which already has Leonardo DiCaprio signed on, with “The Social Network’s” Armie Hammer in a secondary role, recently acquired “Gossip Girl” star Ed Westwick for its cast, according to Deadline. Westwick will play the man hired to pen Hoover’s biography who gets into hot water when his research reveals more information than he was supposed to know.
The production recently lost Charlize Theron in a major role; Eastwood is looking to replace her with possibly Naomi Watts or Amy Adams.
It’s a good-looking cast, both in terms of talent and actual physical appearance. Maybe even too much so; DiCaprio’s a great actor, but he’s also a lot prettier than Hoover ever was. Will he be believable in the role? We’ll have to wait and see.
It’s no longer any secret that Hoover was a homosexual, and Eastwood has made it clear that he plans to explore this aspect of his identity in the movie. We can also hope that the movie will be an entertaining look into the inner workings of the CIA, and some of the insanity that went on during Hoover’s reign.
