"Jon Hamm Wisely Averts the Superman Curse"

While at the Golden Globes, Jon Hamm was pursued by MTV on the red carpet, who wanted to know what he thought about the rumors of his involvement with the Superman franchise, now that his "Sucker Punch" director Zack Snyder was at the helm. Hamm, dapper as always, shrugged it off by saying that he thought Superman was "a young man's game." In the past Hamm has admitted to being a big fan of comics and while he says he and Snyder have spoken about it, the project just isn't right for him. One aspect of Superman outside of age that has kept Hamm away is his stated belief that Superman is a tough figure to make interesting, remarking that "he's invincible, so where's the drama?"

Similarly, a casting call that went up in November stated that the film's producers, including Christopher Nolan, were looking for an actor in the 28 to 32 age range, and they may in fact be most interested in an unknown, which is, of course, how Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh were found as well. Hamm may have been subtly referring to this with his statements or he may have had more important things in mind, like avoiding the Superman curse.

Involvement with Superman has already felled several actors, including George Reeves and Christopher Reeve, and actors who have played other roles in the various adaptations have had misfortune as well, from Margot Kidder to Richard Pryor. You could also blame Superman for the gigantic reduction of reasoning ability that plagued Marlon Brando for the last third or so of his career.

If these curses were real, of course. Which they're not. Right?
