Weekend Box Office Finds “Truge Grit” at the Top
Movie News

Well, it looks like movie-going audiences have finally made a wise decision. While the past couple of weeks saw “Little Fockers” maintaining the top spot at the weekend box office, it was finally kicked off by “True Grit.” Maybe all that bad word of mouth finally caught up with it.
Sure, “Little Fockers” was still in the number two spot, but hey, you can’t have everything. January is known as a pretty dry season for quality movie releases—the most popular new film this weekend was “Season of the Witch,” coming in third, after all—so it’s not like audiences had a lot of quality pictures to choose from.
Those that have been met with a positive critical reception, like “The Fighter” and “Black Swan,” are still showing up on the charts, taking the seven and five spot, respectively. Sandwiched between them was “Country Strong,” the Gwyneth Paltrow-starring movie about a country singer trying to make a comeback.
So, basically, the Taylor Swift story twenty years from now.
“Tron: Legacy,” which didn’t become the tremendous box office success that the studio was possibly hoping for, still kept a nice place at the number four spot. It won’t make a huge profit, but it will make some profit, but probably not enough to warrant a third installment. Maybe we can be thankful for that.
“The King’s Speech” came in at number eight, and perhaps we can be thankful that “Yogi Bear” was buried in the nine spot. There’s still hope for movies after all.
