“Friends With Benefits” Movie Trailer Review
Movie Trailer Review
By our guest blogger, Joe Oliveto
Romantic comedies are rarely original these days, but they also rarely spark such a strong feeling of déjà vu via their trailers alone. The release dates of “No Strings Attached” and “Friends With Benefits” are too close together to call either one a rip-off of the other, but from the looks of it, they are completely interchangeable. Two good friends who’ve been having difficulties in their relationships decide to use each other simply for sex, but things get complicated when emotions inevitably get involved.
Odds are, everyone in the audience knows exactly what’s going to happen in this movie long before it even begins. And that would be ok, if the writing was sharp enough to keep us entertained. Some movies can get away with being predictable if they are fun enough waste a few hours of your life on.
But from the looks of the trailer, “Friends With Benefits” is not one of those movies. There wasn’t a single moment that would make a viewer laugh, and its two skilled lead actors—Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis—seem to know that they are just doing this for the paycheck. Neither one appears to be invested in the role.
Maybe this movie will surprise us and wind up being an entertaining—if somewhat formulaic—romantic comedy, but we’re not too sure that will be the case.
Oh, and by the way: what the hell is Patricia Clarkson doing in something like this? She’s way better than this type of movie.
Below is the trailer. Thoughts?
