Jason Lee to Direct Time-Travel Comedy "Get Back"

Jason Lee, probably best known these days as the star of the recently cancelled NBC sitcom "My Name is Earl," is set to make his directorial debut with a time travel comedy with quite a strange premise.

The plot, from Empire:

""Get Back" is a time traveling adventure about two music obsessives transported to the 1960s, where one of them gets into a love triangle with John Lennon and Yoko Ono."

The Beatles seem to be on everybody's mind lately, what with the release of the band-exclusive Rock Band video game and the remastered releases of all of their albums, and there's even been a recent biopic called "Nowhere Boy" made about John Lennon's early days forming the band that's set for release later in the year. So it might be the perfect timing for a Beatles film...but a time-traveling adventure about them? Certainly an odd concept, that's for sure, but I'll keep an open mind.

This will be Lee's first feature as a director, and I really can't wait to see what he can do. I've been a huge fan since long before "Earl," as I'm a notorious Kevin Smith nerd and loved him in all of Smith's early films ("Mallrats," "Chasing Amy"). He has an almost unmatched likability as an actor, even in films that aren't so great, so it'd be interesting to see if he has any talent behind the camera after nearly two decades of working in front of it.

Lee also has plenty of stuff coming up acting-wise, with another collaboration with Smith in the cop-comedy "A Couple of Dicks" aimed for a March release and the sequel to the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" in December.
