"Grown Ups" Movie Trailer Review

Excitement for the upcoming Adam Sandler comedy "Grown Ups" seems to hinge entirely on whether you're a fan of Sandler's more recent comedies. The film, directed by Happy Madison mainstay Dennis Dugan ("I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry") seems to combine the elements of most of Sandler's productions into one--childishness, interacting with children, bromance, and countless pratfall humor mixed with sex comedy.

This time around, Sandler is joined by not just one or two of his consistent collaborators, but nearly all of them--Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider and David Spade all star alongside Sandler as a group of high school friends who get back together after 10 years for the funeral of their basketball coach (which seems mostly just to be a random means the scriptwriters used to get all of these actors together to do silly things for 90 minutes).

To be fair, the trailer doesn't make it look as bad as it seems it should be, but it still looks fairly juvenile and typical, not to mention completely derivative of films Sandler has made many times over.

Also starring in the film are Salma Hayek, Maria Bello, Maya Rudolph and other frequent Sandler collaborators and SNL alumni Colin Quinn, Tim Meadows and Norm MacDonald. Steve Buscemi and Gary Busey round out the massive ensemble.

So basically, if you're a fan of Sandler's recent output and get giddy just seeing all of those names in the cast, this will probably be something worth seeing. Otherwise you might want to stay far away from this one.

"Grown Ups" is set for release on June 25, 2010.
