Kanye West's "Coldest Winter" Music Video Review
Kanye West – “Coldest Winter”
By our guest blogger, Megan O'Malley
Dear Kanye West:
Most people criticize you for arrogant ways and self-centered delusions. Yet behind your shutter shades lies a true artist, one who wrote hits such as “Gold Digger” and “Jesus Walks.” Now, your latest single, “Coldest Winter,” doesn’t even have the faintest glimmer of your self-proclaimed genius. What happened?
Your video plays out like a mix between "My Chemical Romance" and "Harry Potter." The dreary sets and dark tones are a far cry from your marching band days of “Touch the Sky.” If you and the absence of bright colors weren’t bad enough, the fact that there is nothing going on in the video but running makes it worse. What nails it to the wall is the fact that the only thing worse than the video is the actual song itself.
I don’t know who told you to write a song where you don’t even really rap in it, but you should fire them. You are a rapper Kanye, so when you write songs there should be some rapping in them. It’s fine if you want to sing, but repeating the same couple of lines over and over doesn’t make it good. Kanye, you are known for your biting lyrics and wordplay yet you didn’t use any of that in this song. Don’t betray your roots.
I like your arrogance--it’s what makes you the artist you are. Don’t lose it--it’s what makes you the Kanye West we know and put up with. Please don’t make any more crap like this.
Sincerely,
A concerned fan
