Liars “Scissors” off of “Sisterworld” Music Video Review
Liars “Scissors” off of “Sisterworld”

Liars have released a depressing and slightly morbid new video for their single “Scissors.” Their art punk sound meshes well with the underlying hopelessness of the video.
“Scissors” focuses on a lonely castaway floating the ocean in an inflatable life raft. He awakens to find a singular rock sitting with him. In act of desperation, he tosses the piece of earth overboard only to find that there are many more waiting for him behind his back. As the music picks up into a fevered frenzy, so does the video. The castaway must fight for his survival against a growing pile of stones hell bent on sinking his raft. Momentary survival comes when he sees a small boat and climbs aboard to safety. It is here that morbidity of the video really kicks in. Without giving too much of the video away, let’s just say that those rocks are not done hunting down the castaway.
Although the video was a little to depressing for my taste, the song is excellent. The way Liars segue way from a soft, old spiritual sound into a hard rock cry of extreme anxiety is great. They get the two to somehow blend into each other even though it seems like they shouldn’t. Liars have always been known for their dramatic experimentations with music and their latest song, “Scissors,” doesn’t disappoint. Their new album, “Sisterworld,” is now out and if this song is any indication of the album’s sound, fans will be excited.
Grade: B
