"Tron Legacy"

Movie Trailer Review

By our guest blogger, Anthony Crabtree

Many filmgoers have already seen the teaser trailer for “Tron Legacy,” which gave viewers just a taste of what this 3-D film will have to offer. This taste, however, was rather thin; although the teaser trailer highlighted the awesome visual effects, the plot is left a mystery.

The most recent trailer gives the viewer more information about the plot of “Tron Legacy.” Among the visual effects and the booming sound, the trailer presents more information about the two main characters, Flynn (Jeff Bridges) and his son, Sam (Garrett Hedlund). The only real problem with this trailer is if someone has not seen the original then that viewer may have a few questions that are rather important to the enjoyment of the trailer: Who is Flynn and what world is he in exactly?

With those questions in mind, some adventurous viewers will throw caution to the wind and simply be mesmerized by the spectacle before them.

The visual effects when seen in 3D are well rendered and one of the strongest things about both the trailer and the teaser trailer. With that said, the greatest aspect about both is the wonderful score, which is reminiscent of 8-bit video games from the '80s, but with a modern twist, which matches perfectly with the atmosphere that this film is going for. With a trailer that is so visual and audio heavy, it is certain to pique many viewers’ interests in the previous film, which I would consider more of a cult favorite these days than a classic science fiction staple.

This is a trailer that will leave fans of the original quite satisfied and curious, but may leave those unfamiliar with the original in the dark and uninterested. With its flashy visuals and '80s science fiction vibe, there is not doubt that Tron fans will be pleased with this longer “Tron Legacy” trailer.
