"Drive Angry 3D"

Movie Trailer Review

By our guest blogger, Rob Stammitti

Nicolas Cage certainly doesn't seem to be interested in taking any breaks, with plenty of releases this year and now "Drive Angry" to be released in February. The teaser trailer doesn't really give us much to work with, other than telling us quite simply that Nicolas Cage is very angry, he'll be driving, and it will be in 3D (but not retrofitted in 3D like "Clash of the Titans" or "The Last Airbender," mind you, this was filmed in 3D, like "Avatar").

Of course, there is a vague plot provided. Nicolas Cage's daughter has been killed and her newborn baby has been kidnapped. Doesn't really matter by who, like "Taken" or "A Man Apart," it's probably all about the journey.

With subject matter like this and Cage looking like he does (apparently his acting style these past few years just flat-out requires a new hairdo every time), I'd like to think things are being taken lightly. Considering the director is Patrick Lussier, who has helmed such works as "Dracula 2000" and "My Bloody Valentine 3D," I'm not so sure that assumption is too accurate. In which case, not only will Nicolas Cage be driving angry (in 3D, don't forget the 3D, 3D is cool), he'll be driving angry in a film too dismal to and self-important to be funny or even remotely entertaining. But perhaps Cage's presence alone can fix that, assuming he's off-the-wall enough for it.

Also, the cast includes Amber Heard, David Morse and William Fichtner. It's a pretty solid cast, but we don't really get any look at them in the brief trailer, so perhaps they'll be able to move the film up a couple notches as well.

"Drive Angry" will drive angr(il?)y to theaters (in 3D) on February 11, 2011.  The trailer is below.  What are your thoughts?
