E!'s "Bridalplasty."  Nice Day for a (Post-Surgical) Wedding?

Here comes the bride, all dressed in…gauze?

Just when you thought reality television couldn’t sink lower, it manages to surpass all expectations. E! has just unveiled its latest television gem, “Bridalplasty.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, brides-to-be will compete against one another in contrived, wedding-themed challenges. The prize? Plastic surgery, extreme makeover style.

“Each week, a group of women competes head-to-head in such challenges as writing wedding vows and planning honeymoons. The winner receives the chance to choose a plastic surgery procedure from her wish list.”

Contestants will be voted off one-by-one, “possibly walking away with nothing and losing [their] chance to be the perfect bride,” according to the show’s official description.

Walking away with nothing but their face intact, you mean? Apparently plastic surgery is now an integral part of marital bliss.

Congratulations, E! It seems as if you’ve got another winner on your hands. The last E! network work-of-art that I commented on was intended to counteract the obsession with appearance so often encouraged by the media. Clearly, the network is not too attached to that positive message.

The very existence of this show begs the question: How did we get here?

Travis Barker’s ex-wife, Shanna Moakler will be hosting “Bridalplasty.” E!’s Giuliana Rancic as well as Mark Cronin and Cris Abrego of production company, 51 Minds, executive produce. Should have known that the brains behind “The Surreal Life” would come up with something like this.
