With remakes and reboots becoming more and more prevalent in Hollywood, it was only a matter of time before they decided to tackle the sci-fi classic, "Total Recall."

The 1990 Arnold Schwarzenegger action film was based on Philip K. Dick’s short story, "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale" and the word now is that Colin Farrell has emerged as the top contender for the lead role, according Heat Vision.

Farrell sits just ahead of super-hot actors Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy, who are both also considered top candidates. While Farrell has the lead, the other two actors have been rumored around many projects recently with Fassbender slated to appear in "X-Men First Class" and Hardy in "Batman 3."

The original "Total Recall" always has been a personal favorite of mine, if only for some ridiculous vain popping scenes from Arnold. The new film's script, written by Kurt Wimmer, would put a contemporary spin on the story.

All three actors would fit nicely into the role, and Farrell could use this chance as a bit of a second career renaissance after being out of the spotlight for a while. Len Wiseman could be serviceable as director considering his action background with films like "Underworld," and "Live Free or Die Hard."

Filming is set to begin around March.
