Variety is reporting that John Cusack will be starring in Dictablanda ("the soft dictator"), a film described as "a screwball comedy of errors" that find Cusack "embroiled in international mayhem."

Pampa Films will be responsible for the production, with Cusack's own New Crime Productions producing. Set to direct is Alejandro Agresti of The Lake House fame and the script is a collaboration between the director, Cusack, producer Kevin Morris and co-star Paul Hipp.

Details are slim on the film right now, but it appears to bare some similarity to Cusack's Grosse Point Blank and War Inc. films, which found Cusack taking on a more adventurous story than normal. Those pictures were loosely connected and War Inc. in particular took on the international mayhem angle in a pretty elaborate fashion, dropping Cusack in the midst of an Iraq-like conflict in an area ruled by a Haliburton stand-in.

Cusack will also soon be seen as Edgar Allan Poe in James McTeigue's The Raven.
