Almost immediately after he was announced as the director of the upcoming John Gotti biopic, Nick Cassavetes has been released due to a scheduling conflict, according to Variety. The film, to be titled Gotti: Three Generations, already has a large cast assembled, including John Travolta in the lead and Joe Pesci and Lindsay Lohan in supporting roles. The producers of the picture are already in the process of tracking down a new director in order to meet their fall production timeline.

In typical Hollywood fashion, the film is to be a story of redemption, that finds a son rejecting his father's life of crime in an attempt to redeem the family. John Gotti is still seen as one of the biggest figures of organized crime, a former head of the Gambino crime family who lived out his final moments in prison. In some ways seen as a modern day Capone, John Gotti's legacy still looms large and Hollywood has been circling his family's story for some time.

Of course, some Gotti family members have already been cashing in on that legacy, most notably daughter Victoria Gotti, who had a reality show about her life. Lohan was originally in talks to take on the role of Victoria, but she has now been confirmed as John Gotti Jr's wife Kim instead, suggesting that Lohan's pending jail sentence may just be a bit of method acting.
